CPF & UAC-CP Communities Mourn Passing of Co-Founder
It is with heavy hearts that Carmen Pampa Fund announces the passing of UAC-CP co-founder Dick Leahy on Wednesday, October 31, 2018.
From the moment Sr. Damon Nolan, MFIC, asked him to help build a college in rural Bolivia, Dick was a committed to the cause of providing higher education for Bolivia’s most marginalized populations. For nearly 30 years, Dick–along with his wife Ann and their children and grandchildren–have remained very involved in the on-going success of the College and fundraising efforts at Carmen Pampa Fund.
In the very first newsletter that he and his assistant Kay Murray produced in 1993 to generate excitement and support for the founding of the College, Dick wrote: “With this building project, as in much of life, human nobility is found not in achievement, but in prudently trying to make a difference.” A difference has been made, again and again, for hundreds of young Bolivian women and men, with waves of achievement that propagate out into their communities, and into the world.
Relatives and friends may call at Shrine of the Most Blessed Sacrament, 5949 Western Ave. NW, Washington, DC, on Tuesday, November 6, from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m., where celebration of his life and Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday, November 7 at 11 a.m. In lieu of flowers, the family has asked that people consider donating to Carmen Pampa Fund in Dick’s memory.
