Engineers Return to Campus for Water Filtration Project

Engineers in Carmen Pampa

A seven-member team made up of two students from South Dakota State University, Brookings, SD; three students from Fairfield University, Fairfield, CT; and two advisors visited the College August 8 – 14th as part of an on-going joint project between the three institutions and the local community of Carmen Pampa.

The original goal of the water improvement project, which started in 2012, was to build two sand filters at the College (one for each campus) and to install two water chlorinators. As the project has advanced and the filters and chlorinators have been installed, the visiting engineers have returned for on-going management and maintenance. They have also provided trainings to UAC-CP students, staff, and local community members so they know how to manage and maintain the water system.
